Taco Island Tex-Mex, which has a food truck and a Mount Sinai location, opened up its newest spot in Farmingville, located at 2320 North Ocean Avenue, on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

In the month since, the Mexican restaurant seems to have lived up to its claim that it serves “the best damn tacos on Long Island,” according to diners who have visited the new spot.

“Absolutely a must-try,” wrote Holtsville resident Kim C. on the new location’s Yelp page.

“Soooooo happy to have a fabulous new taco spot in Farmingville,” she raved.

Taco Island offers a smattering of more traditional Tex-Mex foods, including empanadas, tacos, quesadillas, nachos, and more, as well as other delicious options like chicken wings and a “birria pizza,” which features three layers of tortillas dipped in consomé and stuffed with meat, mozzarella, onions, and more.

Kim tried a classic shrimp taco, a cheesy barbacoa empanada, and Taco Island’s famous tacos de birria (the small chain claims that it is the original home of the dish).

While she said everything she ate was perfect, the birria took home the gold in her eyes.

“OMG...The Taco De Birria…delicious and at only $4.50 it is a steal,” she wrote.

Foodies looking for a more filling meal can choose a burrito, Mexican torta, chimichangas, and more. On top of that, the eatery offers plenty of vegetarian-friendly options, including fried avocado tacos and vegan carnitas made from jackfruit.

For sides, Taco Island offers chips with guacamole, salsa, or queso, as well as sweet plantains and yuca fries.

“I was not expecting this little restaurant to have so much energy and color and a line that kept growing,” said Yelp reviewer Nicole D. of Patchogue.

She tried nachos, street tacos, and shrimp chalupa with a side of rice and beans, all of which were “fresh and delicious.”

In addition to its regular menu, Taco Island offers catering for parties and can even bring its food truck to events.

Whether it’s for a casual night out or making a work meeting more enjoyable, it appears Taco Island has something delicious for every situation.

“I could not stop eating,” Nicole wrote, “and will definitely be back for more.”
